DEFINE PERIPHERALS OF THE COMPUTER

In general, refers to a hardware device that allows a computer to perform additional features but is not a necessity for the computer. Below are some good examples of computer peripherals.
Good examples of computer peripherals are computer disk drives, keyboards, printers, etc... Computer peripherals are incapable of operating by themselves and rely on the computer to function properly
PRINTER: An external hardware device responsible for taking computer data and generating a hard copy of that data. Printers are one of the most used peripherals on computers and are commonly used to print text, images, and/or photos. The image to the right is a visual example of the Lexmark Z605 Inkjet printer and is an example of what a printer may look like.
Types of printers:
  • Dot Matrix printer
  • Inkjet printer
  • Laser printer
  • Thermal printer
  • LED printer
  • Gear head wireless laser  mouse
PLOTTER: Computer hardware device similar to a printer that is used a pen, pencil, marker or other writing tool to make a design. Often these types of printers are used in schematics, CAD, and other print jobs.
OPTICAL SCANNER: Hardware input device that allows a user to take an image and/or text and convert it into a digital file, allowing the computer to read and/or display the scanned object. A scanner is commonly connected to a computer USB, Firewire, Parallel or SCSI port.
PROJECTOR: A hardware device that enables an image, such as a computer screen, to be projected onto a flat surface. These devices are commonly used in meetings and presentations as they allow for a large image to be shown so everyone in a room can see. To the right is a ViewSonic projector and an example image of what a projector may look like. As can be seen in this image the projector is a small device often a little bigger than a toaster and typically weigh a few pounds.
TAPE: A magnetically thin coated piece plastic wrapped around wheels that is capable of storing data. Tape is much less expensive than other storage mediums but commonly a much slower solution that is commonly used for backup.
GEAR HEAD WIRELESS LASER MOUSE:The Gear Head Wireless laser mouse is an irresistible blend of value and performance. It features a cool and comfortable ergonomic design, plus five programmable buttons to utterly personalize your work or gaming experience. And coming in at under $50, this versatile mouse can handle all of your needs at a fraction of the cost of similar models, most of which happen to be entirely too complex. Ironically, one of the best features of the Gear Head, despite what the brand name implies, is its simplicity -- it lends itself to a personalized, customized PC experience without all the memory-hogging drivers and patented "super buttons" you see out there.
